Pumpkin Juice Varieties
There are several varieties of pumpkins. Some are only used for decoration and Jack-o-Lanterns in the Halloween season, but those with sweeter taste are suitable for cooking and juicing.
However, most juicing books with great recipes don’t specify which pumpkin variety to use.
Here are some of the most available varieties of pumpkin that you can pick for juice. In general, edible pumpkins are those you can find in most supermarkets and use for cooking and juicing:
- Jarrahdale
- Cinderella
- Musquee de Provence
- Cherokee Bush
- Casper
- Baby bear
- Sugar pumpkins
- Butterkin
- Long Island Cheese
Most of these varieties are sweet, so when making desserts and juices from them, you can use less sugar. These are orange pumpkins, except for the Casper variety, used for popular white-pumpkin juice.
Are There Side Effects To Pumpkin Juice?
Side effects of pumpkin juice can occur if you take it in high amounts. These include upset stomach, gas, bloating, diarrhea, and hypoglycemia.
Adults can safely consume from one to two 8-ounce cups of pumpkin juice per day, depending on the juice ingredients.
You should never give pumpkin juice to the infant, and if you are pregnant, consult with your doctor about a safe pumpkin juice dose for you.
Top 5 Pumpkin Juice Recipes
Let’s mix out pumpkin potions! Some recipes include raw and sliced pumpkins, others contain pumpkin puree. You can use a puree when pumpkins are out of season, or you don’t have time to make it by yourself.
Scroll down to learn how to make a pumpkin puree in one of my juice recipes.
I always prefer to make it by myself, but when I am short with time, canned puree works like a charm. You can even use the canned pumpkin to make various recipes other than pumpkin juices, from decadent dessert to savory dishes for your family’s dinner.
Before we hop on to the best pumpkin juice recipes, learn how to prepare your pumpkin for juicing.
How To Prepare Pumpkins For Juicing
The first thing to do is to wash your pumpkin on the outside. It can contain traces of dirt and soil. You don’t want pumpkin juice with soil in it, don’t you?
Then, remove the stem, if your pumpkin comes with it, cut the pumpkin in half, and scoop the seeds with a spoon.
I recommend you to use a chef knife or any other sharp knife type suitable for cutting large vegetables because pumpkins are very hard.
Peel the skin and cut the chunks into smaller pieces you will later use.
- Pro tip: when working with a compact juicer, slice pumpkin, and other ingredients into tiny chunks to get better results.

You can serve it for a Sunday pumpkin-based breakfast. It will wake you up even better than coffee. Also, some people prefer to use pumpkins and apples with the skin. I found that my juice has a much better texture when I peel the skin off, and the taste is the same.
However, pumpkin and apple skins are rich in beneficial nutrients, so you can leave them if you want extra vitamins.

3. Orange Rhapsody
My next recipe featuring this food beginning with “P” is a bit more complex and contains a lot of ingredients. But, you can easily adjust it to taste and swap some of them with things you prefer.
Also, this is such a lovely autumn drink you can serve at fall children’s birthday parties or family gatherings.
The recipe is for six people, but you can adjust it if you need more of it. Also, sometimes I use store-bought pumpkin puree for this one, but you can make your pumpkin puree.
For this recipe: you need 2 pounds of sliced pumpkin. Bake it for one and a half hour at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, scoop the flesh and use a hand mixer to make a puree.
Remember, 2 pounds of sliced pumpkin equal to one can of pumpkin puree. Therefore, if the recipe includes a larger amount of pumpkin puree, increase the raw pumpkin part.
- Servings: 6
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Cuisine: British
- Course: Beverage
Ingredients:
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (ground)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (ground)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 20 apricots (dried)
- 3 cups of water
- 4 cups apple juice
- 10 allspice berries
- 4 slices of ginger (sliced to 2-inch pieces)
Soak apricots in 3 cups of water overnight and keep them in the refrigerator.
Mix the top-grade apple juice, berries, sliced ginger in a saucepan and reduce the heat once you bring the mixture to boil.
Add vanilla extract, stir well and let it simmer on lowest heat for ten to 15 minutes.
Blend apricots with the water they have been soaked in, until you get a smooth texture.
Add pumpkin purée and nutmeg, and process the mixture one more time. If there’s no nutmeg around, opt for some alternative nutmeg ingredients such as mace, allspice, or cinnamon.
Use a cheesecloth or cotton napkin to strain the apple juice mixture into the blender, and process one more time.
Repeat the straining process to strain all pulp and you’ve got yourself a delicious pumpkin juice.
Serve fresh and warm!

4. Healthy Orange Bomb
For some reason, people often mix apples and carrots with pumpkin when making juices. I tried adding avocados and the results were stunning. Also, avocado is one of the superfoods, so this pumpkin-avocado juice makes a real vitamin treat.
- Servings: 4
- Total Time: 45 minutes
- Cuisine: American
- Course: Beverage
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup pumpkin (sliced and peeled)
- 1/2 cup sweet potato (sliced and chopped)
- 1 cup avocado
- 1 carrot (sliced and peeled)
- 1 cup skimmed milk
- 2 teaspoons Mint leaves (finely chopped)
Prepare your ingredients.
Slice, peel, and chop pumpkin, carrot, and sweet potato.
Peel avocado and scoop the flesh with a spoon.
Next, add pumpkin into your juicer and let it process, add other ingredients one by one, and process the mixture in between.
That way, you are ensuring the smoothest possible texture. I don’t recommend adding all ingredients at once; the flavors won’t be the same.
Use cheesecloth, or any cheesecloth alternative, to strain the mixture into a jug.
Add milk, and stir the juice to dissolve it.
Close the jug with a foil and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least half an hour.
Serve cold and garnish with finely chopped mint leaves.
