In 1993 Janis quit her corporate job and ran away to cooking school and hasn't looked back! McLean graduated from the professional program at L’Acadamie de Cuisine and then trained throughout France. She keeps busy both inside and outside the kitchen with a burning passion for cooking (and eating!) tasty seasonal food. In August 2008, Chef McLean was named Executive Chef of 15 Ria restaurant “Renowned for her diverse seasonal menus, Chef Janis will keep the restaurant creative and adventurous,” said Rodney Bernard, hotel general manager. “While 15 Ria already is
considered one of the city’s trendiest upscale eateries with unpretentious prices, we fully expect her to help the restaurant achieve new culinary heights.” Prior to taking the reins at 15 Ria, Chef McLEan was executive chef of The Morrison Clark Inn in Washington, DC. Prior to taking over the kitchen of the historical Inn, Janis helped launch the Silver Spring restaurant, redDog Cafe to critical acclaim. She is a graduate of the professional program at L’Academie de Cuisine and trained in France as well. Janis has also spent time in kitchens around DC and is a former sous-chef of both the Morrison-Clark Inn and Red Sage. She is also a consultant, for La Varenne, the famed cooking school in Burgundy, France and works closely with Anne Willan on a variety of projects. Janis can also be seen on the TV Foodnet Work hit – Food Fight as a contestant in one of the DC based episodes. She has also been a guest speaker at several Smithsonian programs, and is an active member of Women Chef’s and Restaurateurs and Les Dames d’Escoffier.
